A carta:

Dear host family,

My name is Marcela Rios, I'm 22 years old and I lived with my older sister in São Paulo since 1998. I lived with my mother and another sister in a small city of state of São Paulo. I came to this city to try a better job and to study in a better school/college. I'm always with people around me. I have many friends and when I can, I go to visit my mother in her city. I miss her a lot, but I learned how to live with the distance, that’s why the Program can not be a problem for me.
I always wanted to go to the USA, then I decided when I finished my graduation, I'd try again. And here I am.
I like to do many things with my friends as to sing and to play the guitar. Sometimes we go out to a party, or to celebrate something in a pub. I'm so excited to make people happy; special those that I love, and make me feel good. I like to play soccer, chess, and many things about sports and intelectual games.
Care of kids is something that I really like. When I studied at Cefam, school where I learned how to teach kids, I learned many things about them. Kids are special and you need just patience and love to help them. You can learn together. I worked at Só Toquinho firstly. There I could understand many things, especially how to care of kids in their healty moments and what they really like to do to feel better. Kids like to play, to sing, to draw, to make many things in a short time, and if they like so much something you need to explain about their time and about their needs. Kids don't like people who shout, who is rude. You need to have affection for them.
After Só Toquinho School, I worked with kids at Funtime English School, then my experience was increasing. After that, I worked with a social program of the government and with Luzia, the child that I cared until last year.
To be an Au Pair is a great goal for me. In 2006 my friend went to New Jersey and tell me about her experience, then as I knew the program and she said many good things about it, I decided to subscribe and share my culture, my knowledge, my hobbies and everything can be good to me and to the family that I’ll live. I hope that me and the family become great friends and we can talk about our experience of life. To be an Au Pair is a great experience to learn more about English and it’s my focus. I want to learn English very well and come back to get a great job.
I think it’s normal I miss my family, friends and everybody who lives here, but I have a goal and I need to execute it. The child that I’ll care will have fun a lot, ‘cause I love new jokes, new songs, and to make people laugh. My host family can not worry about sadness. I’m very very very happy and God has given me all I need to be complete. I have a great family, I always tried to get my goals and I concluded them, I have special friends and I’m not afraid about this new experience, and the best: I’m just 22. I think if you can, you get it and you need to give your best in everything you do. I’ll help with I can, and if I don’t know how to do, I’ll learn. I’ll be there for that. I’ll care of a child (or more) and we’ll learn each other. I’m in the better part of my life, and to live in the USA it will so much fun and different for me.
You can count on me, and I hope it be mutual. I’m young, I’ve already finished my graduation, I have my goals and I’ve worked with kids a lot. I have experience to be secure for this program. It’s my best moment to be in the USA. I don’t have doubt about it. I’ll do wherever is necessary to be a great Au Pair. You can count on me. I’ll be there for that.
